Saks Fifth Avenue and The League to Save Lake Tahoe presented their 46th annual fashion show and luncheon by the lake on August 1st. The event marked a new era for Oscar de la Renta, with Mr. de la Renta’s successor and creative director Peter Copping at the helm. The runway, built on the sandy beach at the Schumacher estate on Lake Tahoe’s north shore, featured Oscar de la Renta Resort 2016, the first resort collection designed by Copping for Oscar de la Renta.
Event chairs Barbara Brown, Dr. Heidi Cary, Jessica Hickingbotham, Hillary Marble and Edith Tobin announced more than $860,000, a record amount, raised for The League to Save Lake Tahoe.
Scenes from Oscar by the Lake with Peter Copping:
Strawberry basil fizzes, ice cold waters and parasols for sun protection welcomed some 600 guests to the Shumacher family home. For lunch, Chef Colin Smith of Roundabout Catering, prepared sous vide sirloin with mint chimichurri, heirloom tomatoes with burrata and cured lemon zest farro. Each table, adorned with burnt orange, green and white orchids, was also laden with three types of spreads — curried hummus, white bean and rosemary, and a sweet and spicy nut blend — for grilled vegetables and homemade breads. The weather was a balmy 76 degrees with a light breeze; the set, designed by Riccardo Benavides, helped create the picture-perfect scene. The takeaways, gifts from Saks Fifth Avenue and Oscar de la Renta, were colorful enamel frames, each the right size for one memorable picture.
