Twas the night before the Oscar de la Renta show, a cocktail party at the Ritz. Sponsors and special guests gathered for a lively mix. Most women wore his dresses, their hair done with care. All for a designer who was not there.

Mr. de la Renta passed, his successor moved on, the Bolens, no doubt, will keep the company strong. Saks Fifth Avenue hosts the annual fete, a favorite event for the fashion set.

There is another reason we are here, I think, not only to drink. Barbara Brown arrives, Boaz Mazor, too, for the love of fashion, yes. And to keep Lake Tahoe blue. The League to Save Lake Tahoe keeps a watchful eye — winter, spring, summer and fall — the beauty of Lake Tahoe is why.
