Originally brought to life as an opera in 1640 by Claudio Monteverdi, The Return of Ulysses, was recreated with life-size puppets, animated charcoal drawings and performers from the Pacific Opera Company, directed by William Kentridge. A one-night-only show in San Francisco on March 25, 2009, was a benefit performance co-chaired by Candace Cavanaugh and Peggy Newton on behalf of the Modern Art Council for SFMOMA. The exhibition William Kentridge: Five Themes continues at SFMOMA through May 31, 2009.
