Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft and Michael Feinstein

Liza Minnelli performs Irving Berlin’s “I Love a Piano”

Judy Garland‘s daughters Liza Minnelli and Lorna Luft performed in a special tribute to their mother with Michael Feinstein at Feinstein’s in the Hotel Nikko on Friday night. Minnelli’s appearance came as a surprise finale, after three nights of performances featuring Luft and Feinstein. Feinstein’s, located within the Hotel Nikko, is an intimate room set up cabaret style with just 140 seats.

Liza Minnelli holds an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony award. Her half-sister Lorna started her career in show business at age 11 as a guest on her mother’s CBS television series The Judy Garland Show. Lorna’s theatrical career has included roles on Broadway, in national tours, European and regional theater productions.

Two-time Emmy and five-time Grammy Award-nominated Michael Feinstein was Ira Gershwin’s assistant for six years, which earned him access to numerous unpublished Gershwin songs, many of which he has since performed and recorded. Liza Minnelli’s godparents were Kay Thompson and Ira Gershwin. Her parents named her after Ira Gershwin’s song “Liza (All the Clouds’ll Roll Away)“.
