In 1956, San Francisco Symphony‘s first Black & White Ball commemorated the 50th anniversary of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. This year, the event celebrated the 100th anniversary of San Francisco Symphony. Paul Simon headlined at Davies Symphony Hall and ten more bands performed on five different stages placed throughout the Civic Center.
Some 5,000 guests who paid anywhere from $200 to $5,000 danced in the streets at the city’s largest black-tie event. Funds raised will provide free music education for 75,000 Bay Area elementary school students through the Symphony’s Adventures in Music Program.
