Red Carpet Getaway: Carmel Valley

Bixby Creek Bridge, Big Sur

The month of April is Red Carpet getaway time! First stop: Bernardus Lodge in Carmel Valley. From San Francisco, just 120 miles down the 280 is the picturesque Monterey Peninsula, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel, Carmel Valley  — and majestic Big Sur is just 40 minutes further south on Highway 1. I recommend hanging your hat in one place and visiting the sites over a few days.  Carmel Valley, known for its sunny days — average temperature in April is 65 degrees fahrenheit — and chilly nights is a convenient location, and the Bernardus Lodge a charming place to do just that.

A few things that make the Bernardus Lodge red carpet in style:

1.  Believe it or not, one of the things I like most about Bernardus Lodge is the lobby. The guest reception is pleasant, no long counter or waiting in line, just a quaint living room with a cozy fire and comfortable seating areas. It is a type of setting where one could relax for hours, reading and drinking wine.

2.  The resort is centered around a croquet and bocci lawn. Fog, light rain or sunshine, with cocktails or without, these are sports anyone can enjoy.  It is a great spot to gather with family and friends before dinner.

3.  The country-French decor, delicious drinks and comfort food made with the freshest local ingredients. I had a drink made of fresh strawberries, basil and gin and it was dreamy.

4. Accessibility to Pebble Beach, Carmel and Big Sur.
