Volunteers for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation gathered for a reception at Neiman Marcus on Union Square to raise awareness for the upcoming HOPE Gala on May 2, 2009. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly and requires multiple daily injections of insulin. Unfortunately, there is not a cure for diabetes or the eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.
