Gaultier Tour de Force in San Francisco
In September 2011, some 100,000 people lined the streets of downtown Montreal for a parade and welcome for the premiere of The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. In November 2011 the exhibition traveled to the Dallas Museum of Art, where Gaultier was heralded with no less than six parties. On March 22, 2012, it was San Francisco’s turn.
The de Young Museum celebrated the arrival of the exhibition and the designer with a private dinner and performance by Dita Von Teese for top-level Fine Arts Museums donors, and followed with La Grande Fete, a celebration for over 1,000 held in the museum. Just as in Montreal and Dallas, guests turned out in Jean Paul Gaultier, or Gaultier-inspired clothing — from sailor stripes to pointy bras to skirts on men — and so much more.
