Children of Shelters holiday events including Jingle & Mingle, a designer wreath auction and cocktail reception, and SantaFest, a day of fun for children and families, raised a record-breaking $340,000 for some 4,000 children living in San Francisco’s homeless shelters. The funds will be used to send 200 kids to summer camp, 50 children to San Francisco Recreation and Parks classes, eight youths to private schools, and to host 150 kids birthday celebrations.
On December 6, 2012, a capacity crowd of 600 supporters attended Jingle and Mingle at the Golden Gate Club in The Presidio. Forty-nine one-of-a-kind donated wreaths for auction were displayed in the alpine-lodge styled setting by Ken Fulk.
The next morning the club transformed for SantaFest! Children and their families decorated gingerbread houses, played games and breakfasted with Santa Claus. That afternoon, Children of Shelters brought 100 families from five local shelters to the club for a party and a special holiday dinner. Each child, from newborn to teen, went home with a gift.
