California Comparison Shopping at $1.4 Million

Writer Michelle Quinterro explores and compares what $1.4 million can buy across the Golden State, from sunny San Diego to the City by the Bay. Introducing the first in her “Cali Comparables” series for Coldwell Banker:

You set a certain budget for your house hunt—and you can’t go a penny over it. But what if you want to expand your search a wee bit beyond a specific neighborhood? We decided to play the comparison game by exploring what you can buy for a certain dollar value in various California neighborhoods in a series called “Cali Comparables.” We’re going across the Golden State to give you an idea of how far your dollar goes in certain areas.

For this edition of Cali Comparables, we’re traveling up from the sunny county of San Diego and landing on the cool, coastal land of San Francisco. The City by the Bay, as it’s often called, is known for the Golden Gate Bridge, being home to a number of incredibly successful companies, an eclectic mix of architecture and its savvy and diverse population. All those amenities come at a price, however. For the second quarter of 2016, according to the Coldwell Banker Quarterly Real Estate Report, the median sale price for a single-family home in San Francisco was $1,365,000. With that in mind, we decided to explore what the dynamic city of San Francisco has in store around that price range – or slightly over/under. Here’s what we found:

Fabulous Find in the Financial District

Location, location, location. This sophisticated condo puts you in the middle of San Francisco’s upscale and fast-paced downtown area where you’ll be in walking distance to world-class museums, Moscone Convention Center, Metreon and Union Square.
