A group of Bay Area women focused on securing America’s leadership in science announced grants for 68 of Northern California’s top scholars in science, math, engineering and medical research. ARCS Northern California Chapter Scholar Awards Celebration honored the scholars, from six Northern California universities, at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco on November 10, 2016. A devoted and lively audience of 360 attended the reception and dinner and helped raise more than $360,000 for the ARCS program.
Achievement Rewards for College Scientists, also known as ARCS, invests in young scientists at the seed stage. Since its inception in 1970, ARCS Northern California Chapter has awarded more than $18.8 million to 2,525 scholars. Every dollar contributed to an ARCS Foundation Scholar Awards Fund goes to the students. Grant recipients are selected by ARCS academic partners based on merit, their research and their potential in the fields of science, math, engineering and medical research. ARCS’ academic partners include San Francisco State University, University of California, Berkeley, Davis, Santa Cruz and San Francisco, and Stanford University.
