After-School All-Stars — Kelly Porter, managing partner at Woodside Capital Partners, opened his home, The Stonebrook Estate in Los Altos Hills, on March 31, 2012, for Spring Starlight, a benefit for Bay Area After-School All-Stars. Ben Boyer, managing director at Tenaya Capital, chaired the event and Brett Brewer of Adknowledge, Charlie Faas of Sharks Sports & Entertainment, and Katie Stanton, vice-president international strategy at Twitter, served as hosts.
Since 1997, Bay Area After-School All-Stars has provided a safe space for kindergarten through eighth grade students from low-income communities. Weekdays after-school until six p.m. are an enormous challenge for many families in the U.S. More than 70 percent of children have parents who work outside the home, leaving 15 million youth unsupervised by adults when the school day ends. The Bay Area After-School All-Stars offers comprehensive out-of-school programming for underserved youth in 23 Bay Area schools.
