Japan’s top specialty retailer, Uniqlo, opened a 29,000 square foot flagship store at 111 Powell Street in San Francisco’s Union Square district on October 5, 2012. Uniqlo designs, manufactures, markets and sells high-quality casual apparel with a “Made for All” philosophy. Prices are exceptionally reasonable, for example its Japanese-Engineered Jeans available in a rainbow of colors are just $9.90.
Uniqlo San Francisco has 77 LCD screens lining its perimeter on seven large monitor walls, and a new mirror technology that changes the color of the brand’s top-selling products when tried on in a virtual dressing room. Allison Speer planned the grand opening celebrations with San Francisco brand ambassadors including Pro-Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana, Brit & Co.’s Brit Morin and Mission Chinese Chef Danny Bowien. Opening events included a ribbon-cutting with Mayor Ed Lee, a party for 500 with DJ Miguel Migs and R&B singer Goapele, and a private VIP dinner on October 4th. San Francisco is the company’s fifth U.S. location; there are currently more than 1,100 stores worldwide.
