Bay Area based film legend George Lucas will be recognized as a Bay Area Treasure by SFMOMA on October 24, 2013.  The 14th annual lifetime achievement award dinner, chaired by Jacqueline Sacks and organized by SFMOMA’s Modern Art Council, will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco; tickets starting at $400.

Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson attended an event at Yammer headquarters in San Francisco, where SFMOMA director Neal Benezra made the announcement. “George Lucas’s visionary work with the moving image — particularly as a pioneer of visual effects and an inventor of new forms of storytelling — is genre-crossing and has redefined the language of cinema in our age,” said Benezra. “Film has a long history as part of the museum’s program, and we are thrilled to celebrate Lucas’s extraordinary achievements.”
