San Francisco Ballet will open its 2018 Repertory Season on Thursday, January 18, 2018. Following the Opening Night Gala (a Red Carpet favorite!), the Repertory Season will consist of ten programs, from January 23 to May 6. The first program features Helgi Tomasson’s production of The Sleeping Beauty, the classic story of a sleeping princess, a handsome prince, and the triumph of a true love’s kiss.

The Sleeping Beauty, with music by Russian composer Tchaikovsky, is based on Charles Perrault‘s La Belle au bois dormant. First performed in 1890 at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, it is one of the world’s most famous classical ballets. The Sleeping Beauty revival in San Francisco begins on January 23rd.

A Prelude to the Kiss on November 9, 2017, celebrated The Sleeping Beauty and offered sponsors an exclusive first glimpse at its lavish costumes. Event Chair Lydia Bergman of the San Francisco Ballet Auxiliary welcomed some 100 guests to the reception held at a private home in the Presidio.
