SF Symphony Focuses on Sustainability

Symphonix is the name of a group committed to expanding the audience of symphony goers in San Francisco. The Symphonix group hosts four or five events annually for young professionals, as well as pre- and post-parties around San Francisco Symphony performances including the annual opening gala and the Black & White Ball.

In addition to the annual events, Kathryn Pellegrini Inglin, president of Symphonix board 2009-10, is premiering after-hours modern deejay interpretations of classical music in the second-floor lounge at Davies Symphony Hall and winemaker dinners with musicians.

Symphonix board member Kelly Grimes joined in 2003, and through her involvement met both her boyfriend and best friend. Kelly says it is a combination of the supportive staff at San Francisco Symphony, the diverse and dynamic Symphonix membership and the fantastic parties that inspire her commitment.

Besides attending interesting parties and paying an $85 annual membership fee, Symphonix members purchase tickets to at least three performances each season. A background in music education is not required; rather, opportunities to learn about the music are offered. A recent one-on-one-style talk, inspired by Bravo TV’s Inside the Actors Studio, brought the group together with San Francisco Symphony musicians and programming staff. Other membership benefits include discounted performance tickets and a discount at the San Francisco Symphony Store. Symphonix brings people in the San Francisco Bay Area together who share a budding interest in music and in sustaining one of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras.
